Better, Not More

Are you sparking growth or managing decline? When leadership teams find themselves reacting to fires rather than serving the deepest need, the default answer is to add more, or do something flashy like a rebrand. They're training themselves (and their teams) to tread water instead of problem solve, to manage decline instead of leverage expertise. It's demolition in slow motion. The Better, Not More Lab is a tactical intervention that halts this cycle.

Most retreats focus on addition—more goals, more metrics, more visionary bloat. This lab does the opposite. It's a joyful mutiny against performative action, putting teams nose-to-nose with the legacy processes and clutter that suffocate creativity and potential. By clearing the deck with collaborative radical candour, we transform leadership from a series of exhausting reactions to an essentialist engine for high-leverage service.

The goal isn’t more. It's better.

The Service-First Mutiny

Efficiency isn’t a spreadsheet goal; it's an obligation to the people we serve. Start a joyful mutiny against the more-is-more mindset of the non-profit world. Let's trade pursuit and performance for service-first evolution and impact-focused effort.

Our Objectives

Halt Decline: Identify where reactivity has replaced strategy.
Radical Subtraction: Audit portfolios to eliminate low-ROI activity that drain team energy.
Define Transformation: Build a clear, corporate-fluff-free value proposition for the future.
Operational Alignment: Create a 90-day action list focused on efficiency, freeing capacity and better-not-more execution. (Your teams will thank you for it).

What we'll do

Rather than a morale retreat or a blue-sky session this is you taking your systems, processes, leadership and more apart to see what makes it tick, and more importantly, what doesn't need to be there. It's designed to restore your team’s agency and focus on what matters most.
  • Reactivity Reset: Identify the firefighting habits that turn leaders into bottlenecks and reclaim the space for high-leverage problem-solving.
  • Radical Audit: Uncover and remove legacy clutter that suffocates creativity. We audit the inherited busy-work to free our teams.
  • Capacity Liberation: Trade complexity for joy. Automate the small stuff, delete the unnecessary, empower your people to apply their front-line know-how where it actually creates impact.
  • Essentials: Replace the more-is-more drive with doing less better, turning leadership back into an act of barrier-removal and service.

The experience

A 1.5–2 day in-person intensive for senior leadership teams and executive boards.
  • Interactive: No PowerPoints. No lectures. This is a working session built on daring candor, transparency in our portfolios, and guided strategic renovations.
  • The Reckoning: We look at and share our own missteps where we are managing decline instead of charting a course. None of this works without vulnerability.
  • The Crucible: A space for high-leverage truth-telling. We prioritize the mission over portfolio protection, grounding every decision in the reality of the people we exist to serve.
  • Immediate ROI: Leave with a signed Leadership Alignment Contract and a tangible 90-day action list.

The Investment

In the spirit of the Better, Not More, we won’t hide the fees.

The Baseline: Labs Start at $12,500

What's Covered

This baseline covers the core 1.5 to 2-day intensive, the pre-retreat organizational audit, and the post-lab alignment for standard executive teams.

You are investing in a strategic intervention to permanently eliminate operational bloat and turn decline management into creativity and impact.
Scalable Architecture

No two mutinies are exactly the same. We redesign the lab to match the reality of your current systems. This baseline modifies depending on:

Scope & Scale: The depth of the pre-retreat audit and the size of your leadership or board structures.

Specialized Co-Facilitation: The best leaders know their blind spots. If your organizational complexity requires a specific lens, I bring in trusted, high-leverage co-facilitators from my network to meet the need.

The Next Step

If this investment aligns with your commitment to radical subtraction and high-leverage service, let’s have a fluff-free conversation about what your team needs.

In the non-profit and academic spaces, more than ever, we need to remember why we exist, the people we serve, and discover ways to serve them better.

Reclaim your impact

If the baseline aligns with your commitment to service, let’s talk about the specific architecture of your lab.
