Communication as Leadership

In the halls of academia and the boardrooms of the non-profit world, culture shouldn't happen by accident. But every decision, promotion, hiring, firing, restructure, silence and sound is a piece of communication whether we want it to be or not. Communication that shapes and even empowers our cultures, good and bad. So we better do it on purpose.

Communication as Leadership is a half-day interactive session that helps leaders recognize all the ways (intentional and accidental) they communicate with their teams. Through real-world example, listening for potential and narrative bias awareness, participants leave with practical tools to build trust, foster psychological safety and shape their culture on purpose.

Senior leaders in a collaborative

The Communication Mutiny

When we don't understand the full breadth of communication, we can't build the cultures we hope to build. And that's how cultural and ethical drift thrives: stealth intention, assumption bias, and institutional habit. These begin to lead instead of the leaders. This half-day interactive workshop is a mutiny against the status quo of corporate communication.

Our Objectives

Understand the impact of everyday communications on culture.
Identify gaps between intended message and actual communication impact.
Employ authentic communication strategies for transparency and connection.
Practice strength-based listening to uncover potential rather than defaulting to problem-identification and pre-judgement.

What we'll build

This isn't a refresher on soft skills. We're building a toolkit that makes how we communicate fundamental to the culture we want to create.
  • The Leadership Lens: Identify communication blind spots that can create or undermine trust in real-time.
  • The Authenticity Audit: Remove corporate-speak and institutional obfuscation in your comms to heighten humanity and connection.
  • Listening for Potential: Flip the script from problem-biased listening to helping your people uncover potential in themselves, their systems, and the organization at large.
  • Bias Awareness: Move away from the story you tell yourself and how to model that behaviour in your teams.

The workshop experience

A three- or six-hour intensive (in-person or virtual) for groups of 8 to 25.
  • Interactive: Lot's of discussion, lot's of practice, guided debriefs.
  • Real-World Stories: We model the behaviour we want to see. We share our own stories of communications gone wrong (your facilitator most of all). None of this works without vulnerability.
  • Psychological Safety: Be open, be honest, be you.
  • Immediate ROI: Leave with a Stop | Start | Evolve plan ready for immediate implementation. Practical and simple (not easy) actions.

A Bespoke Mutiny

If this format doesn't work for you, let's make one that does. Your leadership and culture story is already writing itself. This is your chance to take back the pen.
RIGHT BOX FOR THE JOB

Institutional challenges don't come in a standard box, and nor should their solutions. While the
Communication as leadership framework provides the foundation, the delivery is entirely adaptable.

Whether you're navigating cultural change, looking to align your team or building a culture from scratch, we adapt to the goal.
SCALING THE WORKSHOP

For larger organizations or deep-dive institutional course changes, I bring in a specialized team of experts to expand impact

Leadership & Team Coach Ben Yu Schott is there to create the space where teams connect and thrive, while brand alignment, market entry and Business Strategy Consultant Lynette Tremblay is there to dig out organizational possibility as well as the steps to get there.
MODULAR &  EXPANDABLE

The workshop can be expanded into a multi-day gathering or retreat, a series of monthly pulse checks, or a long-term strategic retainer.

If you have a unique challenge, we have a unique way to communicate through it.
